Advantage Gold is the better fit for most first-time buyers and for any rollover under $20,000, because it opens an account at $5,000 and an account executive handles the paperwork with you. Noble Gold Investments suits a rollover of $20,000 or more from a buyer who wants segregated storage as part of a flat annual fee.

Both dealers sell IRA-approved bullion and store it at an insured depository, and Advantage Gold’s fees land $280 lower over ten years. The larger difference is the account size each one is built for, and that is where the choice starts.

The flat fees drive the ten-year comparison here, because the markup on the metal is set per order, and our fee calculator runs the same arithmetic for your balance with the markup you are quoted.

Minimum investment

The minimum is where the two companies split most clearly. Advantage Gold’s $5,000 minimum covers a modest 401(k) or IRA balance, and Noble Gold Investments’ $20,000 minimum is four times that.

If your rollover is between $5,000 and $20,000, Advantage Gold is the choice of the two and the fee comparison never comes up. If your balance is $20,000 or more, both are open to you and the rest of this page applies. Our page on the Advantage Gold minimum investment covers how the $5,000 figure works in practice.

What each one costs over ten years

The table adds the setup fee and ten years of administration and commingled storage. It leaves out the price of the metal itself and any shipping and insurance on direct purchases outside an IRA.

ChargeAdvantage GoldNoble Gold Investments
Setup fee $50 $80
Yearly storage, commingled $100 $100
10 years of administration and storage $2,000 $2,250
10-year fees $2,050 $2,330

Setup fee and 10 years of administration and storage, from published or third-party fee figures for each company. These are list fees before any waiver. The markup on the metal is quoted per order and sits outside these totals.

Advantage Gold comes out $280 lower on ten-year fees. Noble’s setup fee is $30 higher, and its $125 administration fee against Advantage Gold’s $100 adds $250 across 10 years, which together make the $280 you see in the table.

That works out to about $28 a year on the two standard schedules. Our Advantage Gold ten-year cost page adds up the fees line by line.

What Noble Gold Investments does well

Noble Gold Investments packages its costs into a flat annual charge of $275, made up of a $125 custodian fee and $150 for segregated storage, so a buyer who wants their own metal held apart from other clients’ knows the yearly figure in one number. It stores metal at IDS of Texas and Delaware Depository. The ten-year table prices both companies on commingled storage at $100 a year, so a buyer who chooses Noble’s segregated option should use its $275 flat annual figure instead.

Segregated storage at Advantage Gold costs $175 a year, which is $25 more than Noble’s, and that is the one place Noble comes out ahead on a like-for-like line. Our Noble Gold review covers its record and reviews in full.

Education and hand-holding

Advantage Gold is built around a guided first purchase. It offers a free one-on-one call, a free Ultimate Gold IRA Guide, a gold ira beginner's guide, 10 chapters, ten short FAQ videos, a podcast of about 20 minutes an episode, and calculators that compare gold against the S&P 500 and against physical and paper ETFs.

The company describes a full-service rollover in which its account executive completes the custodial application with you, the custodian contacts your old plan and the funds move without passing through your hands. It says the application takes about 30 minutes or less with an account executive on the line, and that the account is funded a few days after the statement is sent.

What the metal choice looks like

Advantage Gold lists 39 products across gold, silver, platinum, palladium. It states the IRS purity floors on its FAQ page, 99.5% for gold and 99.9% for silver, and most of its catalogue meets them. Our page on IRA-eligible products sorts the catalogue into IRA-eligible items and direct-purchase items, which is worth having in hand before you buy.

A worked example over ten years

Over 10 years Advantage Gold’s fees come to $2,050, which is $50 to open and $2,000 of administration and storage. Noble Gold Investments’ fees come to $2,330 over the same period.

The $280 difference is small next to the value of getting the first purchase right, and for a first-time buyer that argues for the company that offers more guidance.

Choose Advantage Gold if

  • You are rolling over a first gold IRA and want a rep to walk you through it.
  • Your balance is between $5,000 and $20,000.
  • You want a free guide, videos and a one-on-one call before you commit.
  • You want the lower ten-year fees, $280 less.
  • You want a company with a A+ BBB grade and a AAA from the BCA.

Choose Noble Gold Investments if

  • Your rollover is $20,000 or more.
  • You want segregated storage at $150 a year, the lower of the two.
  • You like a single flat annual figure of $275 for custody and storage together.
  • You already know how a gold IRA rollover works and need less guidance.

The three things to plan for with Advantage Gold

The company does not publish its fees online, which is why this page prints them, and it runs no live chat, so questions go by phone or through the contact form. Shipping and insurance are charged on direct purchases outside an IRA, which leaves metal bought inside the account unaffected. None of these changes the comparison above for a rollover into an IRA, and the $5,000 minimum is the one to check against your own balance first.

The verdict

For a first gold IRA under $20,000, choose Advantage Gold. For a larger balance the two are close on fees, and the choice comes down to whether you want a guided process, which is Advantage Gold’s strength, or a flat annual fee with cheaper segregated storage, which is Noble’s.
