Advantage Gold is our top pick for a gold Roth IRA because it lists Roth IRA among the account types it opens, starts at a $5,000 minimum and charges flat yearly fees that keep a long hold predictable. Goldco, Rosland Capital, American Hartford Gold, Patriot Gold Group and Birch Gold Group follow, ranked on the fee and minimum terms that matter when an account is meant to sit for decades.

Advantage Gold is a paid partner of Gold IRA Digest, and the section on how we ranked explains how that affects placement. Advantage Gold facts on this page were checked on September 29, 2026, and the fee figures for every dealer were verified on April 17, 2026.
How a Roth gold IRA works
A Roth IRA is an individual retirement account with its own tax treatment, and a gold Roth IRA is a Roth that holds IRA-approved metal instead of stocks and funds. The IRS Roth IRA page sets out the basics, and four of its points shape how a gold buyer should think about the account.
First, you cannot deduct contributions to a Roth IRA, so you fund it with money you have already paid tax on. Second, if you satisfy the requirements, qualified distributions are tax-free, which means the growth in the account can come out without tax at the end. Third, you can keep contributing after age 70 ½ and leave the money in the account as long as you live. Fourth, the account must be designated as a Roth when it is set up, so the choice belongs on your first call with a dealer.
Two more rules are worth knowing. The same combined contribution limit applies to all of your Roth and traditional IRAs, and your Roth contribution might be limited by your filing status and modified adjusted gross income. The IRS publishes the current numbers on the page above and in Publication 590-A, and we send you there rather than print a figure that changes each year.
Why gold and a Roth pair well
Gold is a long-term holding for most of the people who buy it, and a Roth is a long-term account, so the two fit together on the calendar. Three features of the pairing matter most.
The first is tax-free growth. If gold rises over the years you hold it and your withdrawals are qualified distributions, the gain is not taxed when it comes out. The second is the absence of forced withdrawals. The IRS says Roth IRA owners have no required minimum distributions during their lifetime, so you are never made to sell metal in a weak market to satisfy a schedule. Our Advantage Gold distributions page covers the rules for the accounts that do have them.
The third is the cost of time. An account meant to run for 20 years or more pays its fees for all of them, so a flat yearly fee and low ten-year fees matter more than they would in a short hold. That is why our table below shows both ten-year and twenty-year fees.
Who a Roth gold IRA fits
A Roth gold IRA fits a buyer who expects to hold for many years, has already paid tax on the money and wants the freedom to leave it alone. If you are close to using the money soon, a traditional account may match your plans better, and our Advantage Gold who it is for page sets out fit by balance and goal.
It also fits a buyer who wants a share of a retirement plan in physical metal without turning the rest of the plan upside down. Gold is a slice of a portfolio for most buyers, and a Roth lets that slice grow without a tax bill at the end when the distributions are qualified. The first step is to decide the size of the slice, and our fee calculator shows what each size costs to hold.
What we ranked on
We ranked the six picks on the terms that decide whether a Roth gold IRA is comfortable to hold for a long time.
- Roth account support. Advantage Gold’s own FAQ lists the account types it opens, and the list is Traditional IRA, Roth IRA, SEP IRA, Simple IRA and more. That published list is the strongest Roth signal in our data, so it carries the most weight.
- Minimum to open. A Roth gold IRA is often funded by a transfer or rollover, so a lower minimum leaves more buyers able to start.
- Yearly fees. Administration and storage repeat every year, so flat and low fees rank higher, and so do waivers.
- Ten- and twenty-year fees. We ran each dealer through the same model over both holding periods, the arithmetic behind our fee calculator. The figures stop before the markup on the metal, which is quoted order by order.
- Help through the paperwork. A Roth adds a designation step at setup, so we looked at whether an account executive walks a new buyer through the application.
The six picks compared
The table lists each pick in rank order with its label, its entry terms and its fees over ten and twenty years.
| Rank | Dealer | Best for | Minimum | Yearly admin | Storage | 10-year fees | 20-year fees |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Advantage Gold | Best for opening a Roth gold IRA | $5,000 | $100 | $100 | $2,050 | $4,050 |
| 2 | Goldco | Best for the lowest yearly administration fee | $25,000 | $80 | $100 | $1,850 | $3,650 |
| 3 | Rosland Capital | Best for a low-minimum Roth start | $2,000 | $125 | $110 | $2,400 | $4,750 |
| 4 | American Hartford Gold | Best for a $0 setup fee | $10,000 | $100 | $125 | $2,250 | $4,500 |
| 5 | Patriot Gold Group | Best for very large Roth accounts | $25,000 | $200 | $150 | $3,725 | $7,225 |
| 6 | Birch Gold Group | Best for first-year fees paid | $10,000 | $125 | $100 | $2,300 | $4,550 |
Storage is the commingled rate, and a segregated account costs more at every dealer. Each figure adds setup and the yearly administration and storage fees, and it leaves out the markup on the metal, which is quoted per order. Advantage Gold ranks number 3 of the 12 dealers we track on the ten-year figure.

Best for opening a Roth gold IRA
Advantage Gold
- Minimum
- $5,000
- Setup fee
- $50
- Yearly fee
- $100
- BBB rating
- A+
- Trustpilot
- 4.8
Advantage Gold is the clearest fit for a Roth gold IRA in our data, because its own FAQ lists Roth IRA among the accounts it opens, and it opens at a $5,000 minimum. The account types on that list are Traditional IRA, Roth IRA, SEP IRA, Simple IRA, 401(k) rollover, 403(b) rollover, pension plan rollover, so a buyer can choose the tax treatment that fits and still work with one company.
The fee structure also suits a long hold. The yearly administration fee is $100, commingled storage is $100, and both are flat, so a Roth there pays $200 a year for administration and storage whatever the metal does. Over ten years our model puts its fees at $2,050, and over twenty they come to $4,050. The markup on the metal is a separate charge paid once, inside the price quoted per order, so a Roth buyer should ask to see that price in writing before funding the account.
An account executive handles the custodial application and the designation step with you, and Advantage Gold says the application takes about 30 minutes or less with an account executive. Custodians are STRATA Trust Company and Equity Trust Company, and depositories are Brink's Global Services USA (Los Angeles or Salt Lake City) and Delaware Depository (Wilmington, DE). Our Advantage Gold review covers products and ratings, and our minimum investment page covers the entry point.
Pros
- Roth IRA is listed among the account types it opens, next to Traditional, SEP and Simple IRAs
- Rollovers accepted from 401(k), 403(b), pension and TSP accounts
- An account executive completes the application with you in about 30 minutes or less
- Two custodians and two depositories to choose from, and platinum and palladium as well as gold and silver
Things to keep in mind
- The $5,000 minimum puts it out of reach below that balance
- Fee details are not published on the site, so the account executive supplies the schedule

Best for the lowest yearly administration fee
Goldco
- Minimum
- $25,000

Goldco suits a Roth buyer with a larger balance who wants a low running cost over a long hold. It publishes a $50 setup fee, $80 a year for administration and $100 for commingled storage, and its buyback guarantee is published as well.
In our model Goldco’s fees come to $1,850 over ten years and $3,650 over twenty, the second-lowest of the 12 on both, behind Oxford Gold Group, whose yearly fee includes storage. Advantage Gold trails by $200 at ten years and $400 at twenty while opening at $5,000, and our Advantage Gold vs Goldco comparison shows the two schedules together.
Pros
- The lowest yearly administration fee of the 12 dealers we track
- A published fee schedule and a published buyback guarantee
Things to keep in mind
- The $25,000 minimum suits buyers who already have a rollover in mind
Best for a low-minimum Roth start
Rosland Capital
- Minimum
- $2,000
- Setup fee
- $50
- Yearly fee
- $125
Rosland Capital suits a Roth buyer who wants the lowest possible entry point. Its $2,000 minimum is the lowest on our list, which matters because a Roth funded by a transfer or a small rollover may start well below the minimums of larger dealers. Its FAQ publishes a $50 setup fee, a $125 yearly maintenance fee and storage of $110 commingled or $160 segregated.
A buyer with under $5,000 to move has few other doors this wide. Our Advantage Gold vs Rosland Capital comparison sets the two side by side.
Pros
- The lowest minimum of the 12 dealers we track
- A fee schedule published in its FAQ, including a $25 wire fee
Things to keep in mind
- Balances above $25,000 get lower yearly fees at several other dealers
Best for a $0 setup fee
American Hartford Gold
- Minimum
- $10,000
- Setup fee
- $0
- Yearly fee
- $100
American Hartford Gold suits a Roth buyer who wants to start without a setup charge. It charges no setup fee and a $100 yearly administration fee, and it waives fees for one to three years on rollovers of $50,000 and above, with the longer waiver at $100,000. A waiver in the early years lets more of the account compound before the first bill.
Commingled storage is $125 a year, which puts its fees at $2,250 over ten years and $4,500 over twenty in our model. Our Advantage Gold vs American Hartford Gold comparison puts the two schedules next to each other.
Pros
- A $0 setup fee
- Fee waivers of one to three years on rollovers of $50,000 and above
Things to keep in mind
- The $10,000 minimum is twice Advantage Gold's, so it fits buyers past the starter stage

Patriot Gold Group
- Minimum
- $25,000

- $200
- BBB rating
- A+
- Trustpilot
- 5.0
Patriot Gold Group suits a Roth buyer with a very large balance, because it offers no fees for life on accounts of $250,000 and above. For an account meant to stay in place for decades, a fee that stops recurring is the strongest long-term term on our list. Its setup fee of $225 is waived above $30,000, so a buyer at that size opens without it.
Below $250,000 the account runs on a $200 maintenance fee and $150 commingled storage. Our Advantage Gold vs Patriot Gold Group comparison puts the two together.
Pros
- No fees for life on accounts of $250,000 and above
- Investor direct pricing at the $25,000 minimum
Things to keep in mind
- The $25,000 minimum and $225 setup fee suit larger accounts more than starter Roths
Best for first-year fees paid
Birch Gold Group
- Minimum
- $10,000
- Setup fee
- $50
- Yearly fee
- $125
Birch Gold Group suits a Roth buyer with a larger transfer who wants the first year of fees taken off the bill. It pays first-year fees on transfers above $50,000, publishes a $50 setup fee and a flat $125 yearly administration fee in its own fee guide, and works with either Equity Trust or STRATA Trust as custodian.
Storage runs $100 a year commingled, so ten years of fees come to $2,300 in our model. Our Advantage Gold vs Birch Gold Group comparison shows the two together.
Pros
- First-year fees paid by Birch Gold Group on transfers above $50,000
- A choice of two custodians, Equity Trust and STRATA Trust
Things to keep in mind
- The $10,000 minimum fits mid-sized rollovers more than starter accounts
How to open a Roth gold IRA
Opening the account takes four steps, and the Roth choice comes first. Each step is short, and an account executive can guide you through all of them.
- Say Roth at the start. The IRS says the account must be designated as a Roth IRA when it is set up, so tell the dealer on the first call and it is written into the custodial application.
- Choose how to fund it. A Roth can be funded by a contribution within the yearly limit, by a transfer from another Roth IRA or by a rollover from a designated Roth account, and the IRS page explains how a designated Roth account differs from a Roth IRA. Because dealer minimums start at $2,000 and run up to $50,000, most buyers fund a gold Roth by transfer or rollover rather than by a single contribution.
- Understand a conversion. Moving pre-tax money from a traditional IRA or 401(k) into a Roth is a conversion that is added to your taxable income for the year, and Publication 590-A explains the rules. A tax professional can size a conversion to your bracket, and that conversation belongs before the paperwork.
- Buy eligible metal. Gold must be at least 99.5% pure to qualify, and the account executive walks you through coins and bars that meet the rule. Advantage Gold sends the metal, insured, to the depository you chose.
Our gold IRA rollover guide and our 401(k) to gold IRA guide cover the transfer mechanics, and our gold IRA fees guide explains each fee line. If you want to see the top pick’s terms first, Advantage Gold's site has the free guide and a phone line.
Companies we considered and did not rank
Six other dealers in our database did not make this list, and the reason in each case is fit rather than quality.
- Augusta Precious Metals opens at $50,000, which suits buyers moving a large balance and sits well above the range most Roth buyers are working with.
- Monetary Gold opens at $5,000 with no account-opening fee and custodial fees covered for up to five years on qualifying rollovers, and it fits buyers who want early fee coverage.
- Noble Gold Investments opens at $20,000 with a flat $275 yearly figure that includes segregated storage, and it fits buyers with a mid-sized balance who want one predictable charge.
- Oxford Gold Group opens at $25,000 with a yearly fee that includes storage, and it suits buyers with a larger rollover.
- Lear Capital opens at $7,500 with a first-year setup fee that is waivable on deposits of $10,000 and above, and it fits a buyer who can clear that deposit.
- Preserve Gold opens at $10,000 and quotes its prices by phone, which suits a buyer who prefers to talk through pricing before opening.
How we ranked
We ranked the six dealers on Roth account support, minimum, yearly fees, ten- and twenty-year fees and the help a new buyer gets with the application. Advantage Gold is a paid partner of Gold IRA Digest, and partner status affects placement on this page, so please read our disclosure for how we handle it. Roth account support comes from Advantage Gold’s published list of account types, and the remaining dealers are ranked on the fee and minimum terms in our database, each with the date we checked it. If you would rather compare more companies against your own balance, compare matched companies and see which ones fit.
Common questions
Can you hold gold in a Roth IRA?
Yes. A Roth IRA can hold IRA-approved gold coins and bars through a self-directed account. Gold must meet the IRS fineness rule of 99.5% purity, and a custodian holds the account while a depository stores the metal.
Does Advantage Gold offer Roth gold IRAs?
Yes. Advantage Gold lists Roth IRA among the account types it opens, alongside Traditional, SEP and Simple IRAs, with a $5,000 minimum to start.
Are Roth IRA contributions tax deductible?
No. The IRS says you cannot deduct contributions to a Roth IRA, but qualified distributions are tax-free when you meet the requirements.
Does a Roth gold IRA have required minimum distributions?
No. The IRS says Roth IRA owners have no required minimum distributions during their lifetime, so the metal can stay in the account as long as you choose.
What is the best gold Roth IRA company?
Advantage Gold is our top pick for a Roth gold IRA, with a $5,000 minimum, a $100 yearly administration fee and the third-lowest ten-year fees of the 12 dealers we track.
