Is Advantage Gold legit? Yes, it is a legitimate gold IRA company, and its public record is one of the strongest among the dealers we cover. It has operated in Austin, Texas since 2014, holds an A+ grade from the Better Business Bureau with accreditation since August 8, 2014, and carries a AAA rating from the Business Consumer Alliance.
Your retirement account also sits outside the dealer, because a trust company acts as custodian and an insured depository stores the metal. The sections below take each part of that record in turn, with the source for every figure.

Operating since 2014
The BBB records Advantage Gold’s business as starting on June 5, 2014, and it accredited the company about two months later, on August 8, 2014. That gives Advantage Gold more than a decade of history under the same name, the same headquarters city and the same accreditation.
Kirill Zagalsky co-founded the company and runs it as CEO. Advantage Gold reports over $1 billion in sales on its About page, and its headquarters sits at 3600 W Parmer Ln, Suite 107, Austin, TX 78727.
Three of the largest lead-generation publishers rank Advantage Gold near the top of their gold IRA lists. Money.com places it third and calls it the best for customer satisfaction, LendEDU ranks it second and calls it the best for small investments, and Forbes Advisor ranks it second and calls it the best gold IRA for new investors.
What the BBB and BCA grades mean
The BBB grades businesses from A+ down to F. It weighs how long a company has operated, how it answers the customers who contact the bureau and whether it is open about its licensing and practices, and accreditation means the company applied and agreed to the BBB’s standards. An A+ is the top grade, and Advantage Gold holds it.
The Business Consumer Alliance is a separate body that Money.com and other publishers read alongside the BBB. It keeps its own complaint files and publishes its own report, and its AAA is the highest rating it gives. When two bodies with separate staffs land on their top grade for the same company, a buyer is looking at two independent records that agree.
What a legitimate gold IRA company does
A legitimate gold IRA company does four things, and Advantage Gold does each of them.
- It has a public operating history you can check, with a start date, an address and a rating profile.
- It uses an outside custodian to hold your IRA instead of holding the account itself.
- It stores the metal in a named, insured depository rather than at its own office.
- It sells products that meet the IRS fineness rules for an IRA.
On products, Advantage Gold’s catalogue lists 39 items across gold, silver, platinum and palladium, and 33 of them qualify for an IRA. The company’s FAQ states the IRS purity floors it works to, which are 99.5% for gold, 99.9% for silver and 99.95% for platinum and palladium.
Accounts it opens and how the rollover runs
Advantage Gold opens Traditional, Roth, SEP and SIMPLE gold IRAs. It also takes rollovers from a 401(k), a 403(b) or a pension plan, and it names the Thrift Savings Plan as a rollover source, which suits federal employees and service members.
The company handles the rollover for you. An account executive fills in the self-directed IRA application with you, which Advantage Gold says takes about 30 minutes or less with an account executive, and you e-sign it. You then send a statement from your current plan, and the custodian contacts the old administrator and moves the money directly, which the company says funds the new account in a few days.
Because the money moves from one custodian to the other, it never passes through your hands, and the 60-day deadline that applies to a check made out to you does not come into play. The rollover process page walks through each step in order.
Custodians and depositories
Advantage Gold does not hold your IRA. Federal rules require a qualified custodian for every IRA, so a trust company opens the account, keeps the records and reports to the IRS each year. Advantage Gold works with STRATA Trust Company and Equity Trust Company, which gives you a choice between two.
The metal goes to an insured depository, and Advantage Gold names Brink's Global Services USA (Los Angeles or Salt Lake City) and Delaware Depository (Wilmington, DE). The company buys the coins or bars you choose, then packs, insures and ships them straight to the vault, so your gold sits in a depository built for the job. The custodian and depository page compares the options.
What it costs
Advantage Gold does not post a fee schedule on its own site, so we print it here. A gold IRA at Advantage Gold costs $50 to open and $100 a year for administration. Storage runs $100 a year commingled or $175 a year segregated, and a wire costs $30. The markup on the metal is not a separate line, because it sits inside the price Advantage Gold quotes when you order, so ask for that price in writing before the account funds.
Those yearly charges are flat, which means they shrink as a share of the account as your balance grows. The fees page takes each line in turn, and our fee calculator runs the same figures against your own balance.
Customers rate it well on three sites
Customer review sites point the same way as the BBB and BCA. Trustpilot shows 4.8 out of 5 across 1,920 reviews, TrustLink shows 4.9 across 495 and Google shows 4.9 across 987.
A score held that high across nearly two thousand Trustpilot reviews is steadier than the same score on a few dozen, because one unhappy buyer barely moves the average. Our Advantage Gold complaints page sets the BBB and BCA complaint records beside those scores.
Who it fits, and who should look elsewhere
Advantage Gold fits you if you want a first gold IRA, a $5,000 starting point and an account executive who walks you through the paperwork. It is our top pick for first-time buyers for that reason, and the full Advantage Gold review covers products, fees and ratings on one page.
It fits less well if you want to read fees on the company’s own site, since Advantage Gold does not post a schedule there and this page is where you will find the figures. It also runs no live chat, so questions go by phone, email or the contact form, and metals bought outside an IRA carry a shipping and insurance charge on delivery. If any of those rules it out, compare matched companies against your balance first.
